Your Council
Roscommon County Council is the local government authority for County Roscommon, serving 65,000 residents across three municipal districts.
Who we are
Roscommon County Council is the democratically elected local authority for County Roscommon. We provide a wide range of services to the people, businesses and communities of the county, from housing and planning to roads, environment, community development and tourism.
The council comprises elected members from three municipal districts — Athlone, Boyle and Roscommon — who set policy and approve the annual budget. Day-to-day operations are led by the Chief Executive and a management team of directors heading each department.
We are committed to transparency, accountability and serving the public interest. Our meetings are open to the public, and our policies, plans and reports are published online.

Municipal Districts
Three districts, one county
Roscommon is divided into three municipal districts, each with its own elected representatives and local office:
- Athlone Municipal District — serving the south-east of the county
- Boyle Municipal District — serving the north of the county
- Roscommon Municipal District — serving the central area
Each district holds its own monthly meetings and manages local services and projects within its area.
The council exists to serve the people of Roscommon. Every decision we make, every service we deliver, is aimed at making this county a better place to live, work and visit.
